Busy Evening

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Finished relocating the Garage Sale website, including the server-side redirects away from the old version. Updated DNS records on all eight notary domains to point to the Garage Sale. (Wanna buy any used domain names?!) Watched last Thursday’s Survivor, thanks to TiVo. Walked about a mile on the treadmill. Backed up the WordPress-based blog/theme/plugin modifications I’ve made on lecour.ws over the past few months.

Trying to ignore the newly scratched wood floor, the newly broken bathroom tile, the newly patched bedroom wall, and the newly dismantled shower door leaning up in the hallway. Kudos for Kim trying, though. I’m sure I was nowhere near as productive on my first nonworking day after a layoff.

Short Weekend

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Not like weekends are ever long enough.

Still endlessly slaving away at transferring the lecour.net webpages, applications, and domain over to other websites and domains.

  • Finally got an answer on hosting subdomains of a particular domain on different servers. Turns out that it was much easier than I thought it would be, since it simply involves editing the DNS zone. Would have been nice to get a straight answer in the first place, though. I sense a blog about IT people.
  • At considerable effort, recreated the ancient color palette as one of my ramblings rather than a separate, middle-of-nowhere page as it was.
  • Got the Garage Sale website running. Nothing went as planned, of course. Had to fix bugs in the WordPress shopping cart plugin (which I have yet to release) as well as a minor modification to the Devowelizer for WordPress MU installations (which also now needs an update release). Still have to transfer inventory over.
  • Saw tons of really crappy websites while searching for documentation on colors. I sense another blog.
  • Researched a zillion plugins and themes for photoblogs. YAPB has possibilities, but doesn’t completely satisfy my requirements. And, unfortunately, most themes out there are useless for what I want to do.

Summary: Inadequate sleep, as always. Insufficient progress in transferring my hosted websites away from Spry Networks (no reason other than cost cutting). Insane amounts of endless busy work remain.

Somewhat Better Sleep

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Anything would be an improvement from last night, but I’m still plagued with the problem of not being able to breath thanks to my entire head and every possible sinus being stuffed up. A sore, swollen throat does not help. Funny how there’s a medically proven direct correlation between a lessened ability to breathe during sleep and the strength of the urge to pee in the morning (or during the night). Racehorse, I tell ya.

Thinking strongly about going to the Exotic Erotic Ball this year. It’s been on my list of things to do, but have never gotten around to it. Maybe not the best timing to spend that kind of money on a ticket, but when is timing ever good?

Made an effort to solve the issue of having crappy photos showing up in the Flickr stream on my ramblings — created my own Flickr group and have selectively invited photographers to join. Quality of images is significantly higher, but it’ll take some time before I get enough regular contributors that the images rotate frequently.

Have Westminster Bridge (ignore the lack of video) running through my head.

No Sleep

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Worst night’s sleep in years.

Went to bed around 11. Woke up at some unknown hour with sore throat, stuffy nose and head, and a rattled brain. Lay in bed tossing and turning for a while. Got up in frustration at 2:00 (can only see the clock when actually out of bed) and stumbled into my office. Played World of Warcraft, researched parking subdomains, chatted with my ISP support department, created this blog (and another one), failed to get really nice consistent search results on Flickr for artistic nude women (i.e. looking for this, not çráp like this) for my ramblings, researched WordPress themes and plugins for photoblogs, and went back to WoW.

By the time 6:30 rolled around, I was finally getting tired again. Went back to sleep for an hour or so only to be woken by conversation, impossible to participate rationally in after that little amount of sleep.

I’m grumpy, cold, shaky, stuffed up, and irritable.

Yet Another Stupid Blog

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Yes, this blog is intended to be exactly the type of blog everybody hates — things to babble on about (things to heavily ramble on about still go on Richard’s Ramblings instead), my food intake, work, home, life — incredibly boring šhìt like that.

And I’m not even going to spend the time to make it look all pretty. Sure, a few vital plugins are in order as soon as I get a chance to install them, but that’s it. This is not a web design showcase.

So, why create it? Venting? Boredom? Narcissism? Me, too? All of the Above?

No idea.
